Your title would make more sense if there actually was a "left" in American politics and economics. There is not, and likely never has been since its founding. You, like most Americans, have the opinion that America was the product of some really smart people who rebelled against an oppressive government. That story has as much validity as does Santa Clause, the Easter bunny, or any other fantasy adults use to avoid children facing reality sooner than they must.

Those people actually rebelled against the crown because they wished to exploit others here, not set anyone free. The entire structure of America's system of governance defies the concept of universal individual freedom in favor of a ruling class. If we had anything close to a democracy we wouldn't have a Senate or Electoral College to dilute the power of the voter, and we certainly would have some national regulations concerning how much individual states can limit or influence elections.
